AS WE WELCOME NEW YEAR 2011

As the year 2011 dawned we might wonder, what that dawn held for us and for many others. But one thing is certain; the New Year dawned with special hues depending on the colors we had mixed during the past year.

After spending a considerable amount of time trying to imitate others, our mood as we began the first day of the year was the consequence of how we had spent the night of 31st December and perhaps found ourselves totally lost.

Most of us look at it as an occasion to try and get the most of what we generally pursue be it feasting, reveling or going beyond by spending all we can afford. Those who have spent a lot will perhaps have a hangover and regret for all they have done. Those who have money will crave and plan to get more as they move along.

The Church has tried to teach us, especially us Catholics who have lived in the atmosphere of preparation for the coming of Christ. Christmas night was a night of joy and celebration that comes with the ringing of Church bells, with prayer, preparation with a good confession followed by receiving Holy Communion reverently.

The first day of the year 2011 and all days that will follow are there for us to count our blessings and thank God for them, to look at what we have done so far, as seen in the light of God’s boundless generosity. Let us not give in nor give up. All that lies ahead of us is there to be done for we have an exclusive share in it. It is for us to do and no one can do our part.

We are not alone but there are a number of people who touch our lives from different sides and we cannot ignore them. They are part of us and we are necessary for them.

We have God our loving Father, Jesus, his Son and our brother and the Holy Spirit to purify us and guide our path. We have Mary, our Blessed Mother to be our companion to lead us on our way. So, let us with God’s grace continue to do our best during 2011.

FILLED WITH LOVE, JOY AND ABUNDANT BLESSINGS OF THE ALMIGHTY GOD TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY.
